Soy Candles: New Twist on Ancient Product
In a brave new world of iPods and electric cars, there aren’t many products that have remained strong sellers after thousands of years. But people still love the humble candle, and Edith Fikes, the owner and candle maker of Dallas Soy Candles, has found a new twist on this ancient product that makes it even more attractive to modern shoppers.
WHY SOY CANDLES?
Soy wax is 100% natural soybean oil.
Soy candles last longer.
Soap & water clean-up.
Soy candles produce less soot.
THE BENEFITS OF SOY CANDLES

Kosher Certified
Our soy wax is Kosher Certified, proving our committment to providing safe and healthy products.s.
Does Not Stain

Burns Cooler and Longer

Great for “Scenterior” Decorating
Soy wax allows for candles to have a stronger scent and a purer scent throw. This creates great candles with the desired scent for any environment.

Many people are searching for green products to replace more traditional ones that are unfriendly towards the environment. By using soy wax candles you are choosing to support the environment and still enjoy the ambiance you are accustomed to.
Renewable
Soy is a resource that can be replaced at a rate comparable or faster to the rate of consumption.
Sustainable
Soy is continually producible without damaging the ecosystem.
Patriotic

“Being Green” our soy wax is renewable, biodegradable and natural.
DISADVANTAGES OF SOY CANDLES
Because soy wax is all natural, there are no preservatives. As a result, some white frosting may appear on the candle overtime. It may be a few spots around the candle or it may be settled on the bottom of the jar or a ring around the top.
Also, a soy candle needs 7 to 10 days to “cure” properly and when the candle is cured it will have a better scent throw. If a soy candle is subjected to temperature change too soon before it is cured properly, it may develop additional frosting. Sitting a candle against a cold wall or a cold floor can produce frosting.
Soy candles have a lower melting point than paraffin candles so they will melt at 80 degrees and above. If left in the heat, the candle will melt and not burn properly.
Soy wax can have on occasion a tendency to pull away from the container usually around the bottom of the jar. It will appear as wet spots or one can see where the soy wax has pulled away from the container. This does not always occur but it is known as normal shrinkage in soy candles.
The frosting and shrinkage have no affect on the scent or burning of the candle. These are merely cosmetic disadvantages. You will still have a clean burning candle that is better for the environment.
SOY WAX
Soy wax is quite a recent invention. It was only in 1991, when Michael Richards, when looking for a cheaper alternative for beeswax, that he developed soy wax. There was a big demand for natural wax candles, but beeswax was about 10 times more expensive than paraffin. Michael Richards tested different natural plant waxes and finally ended up with a vegetable wax a candle wax that consisted of hydrogenated soybean oil.
Cargill bought in 2001 the patent of Michael's soy wax innovation. Now Cargill manufactures soybean wax, which is supplied to soy wax candle producers.
TIPS FOR BURNING SOY CANDLES
These are some tips so you will enjoy your soy candle longer and safer.
Before lighting your soy candle, the wick should be trimmed back about ¼” each time. Otherwise the soy candle will smoke and burn to fast.
A candle has a memory so make sure that the first time that you burn your candle that it pools completely to the edges of the container. Otherwise, you started a tunnel candle.
It is recommended that you do not burn the candle more than 4 hours at a time to achieve the most of the candle.
Discontinue use of the burning the candle when there is only ½” of wax left in the bottom. This way there is no potential for a fire hazard.
Keep burning soy candles away from children, pets and flammable materials. Never leave burning candles unattended.
Soy candles should not be left for a long time in direct sunlight to prevent the color from fading.
Allow soy candle to cool and harden before relighting.
Do not move the candle while it is burning.
Extinguish the candle if the flame becomes too high or the candle is flickering repeatedly. Let it cool and then trim back the wick ¼” and it will burn better.
